Who will become the mainstream of the HDMI and DP interfaces used on the display in the future

PS5, Xbox series S consoles and other next-generation devices have been released one after another. The HDMI and DP interfaces currently used on displays will become mainstream in the future?

Let me give you a brief introduction to the current interface status. At present, the interface of the display will be equipped with HDMI and DP interfaces, while the VGA interface and DVI interface can only be seen on some low-end displays, and it is basically certain to exit the stage of history.
DP connector
At present, the HDMI interface in the mainstream interface of the display is a left-right symmetrical trapezoid. TVs, computers, and projectors all support it, and it is currently a more common connection port.
Compared with the HDMI interface, the DP interface is much more "specific". It was developed for the computer field from the beginning, so there is almost no DP interface for electronic devices other than monitors and graphics cards.
In addition to the different interface use ranges, the two are also very different in terms of output rate and iteration.
HDMI has been upgraded many times. At present, there are two common HDMI1.4 and HDMI2.0. Among them, HDMI1.4 has a lower bandwidth, only 10.2Gdps, and can only play 4K, 30 frames of video;
The bandwidth of HDMI2.0 has been upgraded to 18Gdps, and the playback frame rate of 4K video has been increased to 60 frames.
The HDMI2.1 on the 30-series graphics card is the next-generation HDMI interface standard. It has a larger upgrade range, with a bandwidth of 48Gbps, and can support up to 240Hz display at standard 4K resolution, which is the number of the previous generation. Times.

After several iterations on the DP interface, there are currently two mainstream protocols, DP1.2 and 1.4.
Among them, DP1.2 supports a bandwidth of 21.6Gbps, and DP1.4 supports a bandwidth of 32.4Gbps.
And the DP interface also has a DP2.0 interface standard that has already determined the protocol content but has not yet been popularized. It supports 80Gbps bandwidth and can support up to 8K/75Hz or 4K/240Hz screen display.
From the current point of view, there are many devices using the HDMI interface, which have strong compatibility, and the interface itself is constantly iterating. The latest HDMI2.1 will also surpass the DP interface in terms of transmission bandwidth, making the display of higher specifications may.
And with the successive launch of 30 series graphics cards and next-generation game consoles, the HDMI2.1 interface will also accelerate the pace of market popularity.
However, there is another killer feature on the DP interface that has not yet come out.
It is currently the Type-C interface on some displays, and it uses the DP1.4 protocol. This kind of round and flat interface that can be plugged in both front and back is probably familiar to everyone.
It has many advantages, such as small size, no distinction between pros and cons, fast transmission speed, strong power supply capability, etc. It is very convenient to use.
It is foreseeable that the future trend will inevitably be that the Type-C interface captures a large number of electronic devices to achieve a unified interface.
Taking AOCU27U2 as an example, it can be connected to the display through the Type-C interface on the notebook.
At the same time, functions such as notebook charging, data transmission, and video output are realized. The mouse cable, keyboard cable, charging cable, and earphone cable are all connected to the monitor for use. When in a meeting or after get off work, unplug the Type-C cable from the notebook and leave it at hand.
Manufacturers such as Samsung, Huawei and Smartisan are also actively promoting the linkage between mobile phones and displays. Some mobile phones that support desktop mode can be connected to the mobile phone through the Type-C interface on the display, and other USB interfaces can be connected to the mouse and keyboard.
The phone will switch to PC mode. At this time, the phone is a mini host. You can use WPS to edit files, send and receive emails, and search for information online. In your spare time, you can also use the large screen to play games, watch movies and other entertainment. .
This is completely impossible on the HDMI interface or DP interface.
The current Type-C interface supports the DP1.4 protocol. After the future DP2.0 protocol is launched, maybe the DP interface will directly change to the shape of the Type-C interface. This will undoubtedly make the DP interface more convenient than HDMI when used in the future. flexible.
In contrast to the HDMI interface, due to the connection requirements of TVs, projectors and other devices, we have to stick to the shape of the HDMI interface.
HDMI cable
As for the DP interface, as mentioned earlier, it was developed for the computer field. So there is more freedom in the choice of interface shape.

Next, there will be more and more electronic devices equipped with Type-C interfaces. If your monitor does not support Type-C interface, then you need to consider replacing a monitor that supports this interface, because the future has arrived.
