What is the role of connector plating
Konnra connector engineers pointed out that electroplating is the process of depositing another layer of metal on another metal. Simply put, it is achieved by using a series connection and a liquid solution containing the plating material. What are the benefits of the plating process?
Connector conductor plating has many effects. A good connection of the plating layer can ensure the best conductivity of the circuit. When the basic material of the connection is conductive, the plating will reduce the resistance of the interconnect itself, which makes it easier for current to flow through the connection.
The electroplating process of the connector conductor can achieve mechanical purposes. Rubbing two metals will cause friction and damage, and a layer of plating can protect the underlying metal inserted below. For many reasons, gold is often replaced by electroplating materials, which has excellent electrical conductivity, and gold is also a precious metal and does not react with other materials, which makes it very suitable for contact plating. Because gold does not oxidize or change color in the atmosphere, it has long-term durability in harsh environments.
From the point of view of manufacturing cost, tin can sometimes replace gold. Although tin is not as wear-resistant as gold alloy, it also has the advantage of good combination with solder, which is very suitable for use on printed circuit boards (PCB). In fact, in order to combine the quality of gold and tin, the two are often plated, and the mating area of the connection is plated with gold to provide the best mating surface. The terminals are tinned to provide the best connection when soldering to the PCB. This process is called selective plating.
