USB 3.0 Type A connector
The USB socket used by the PC manufacturer belongs to the Type A connector, which can be judged by its rectangular shape. The Type A socket can be found on the upstream device, such as a USB host or a hub. USB Type A plugs are also found on cable and smaller peripherals such as mice and flash drives.
USB 3.0 Type B connector
Use removable cable for some larger USB peripherals such as printers and scanners, and use a square-shaped USB Type B socket. The instrument is another downstream device. To connect the instrument to a PC, you also need a USB Type A to Type B cable.
Both types of plugs explained above have the same number of pins and are electrically identical, they are only mechanically different.
