Briefly describe the basic elements of FPC connector easy to transfer and reliable connection
Among the many connectors, have you heard of FPC connectors and how much do you know about them? Today in this article, Konnra connector engineers will introduce you to the basic elements of ensuring that FPC connectors are easy to transfer and reliable. Hope that Through our introduction, you can have a deeper understanding of FPC series products.

Generally speaking, the basic elements to ensure easy transfer and reliable connection of FPC connectors mainly involve three parts: substrate, adhesive, and metal foil. The specific content is as follows:
I. Substrate
The base material is the base material, which provides the basis for the laminate. It is a flexible polymer film that provides the main physical and electrical properties of a flexible circuit. Although the thickness of the base material is typically in the range of 1/2 mil (1 mil = 0.0254mm = 25.4 μm) to 5 mils, thicker or thinner materials can also be used. Generally, thinner materials are softer and thicker materials are harder. Some materials used as the base film are polyester, polyimide, polyethylene naphthalate, polyetherimide, fluoropolymers and copolymers.

2. Adhesive
The element of the adhesive is the bonding medium, which is essential when manufacturing laminates. Like the substrate, the adhesive has different thicknesses. There are two types of conductive adhesives, which are isotropic and anisotropic. An isotropic type of conductive adhesive (ICA) is conductive in all directions and is used for chip contact. Anisotropic type conductive adhesives (ACA) on the other hand contain special particles that are conductive only in one direction.

3. Metal foil
Metal foil is a conductive element of a flexible laminate FPC and is a material that etches circuit paths. Because copper is cost-effective, it is more commonly used than other metals. There are two different types of copper: electrodeposition and forging, each with four different subtypes. In order to improve its bonding quality, a thin layer should be applied on one side of the foil. Although copper is the most widely used metal in FPC connectors, other metals such as copper alloys or aluminum can also be used.
